On the afternoon of Wednesday, April 16, the Municipal Drinking Water and Sewerage System of the Port of Progreso (Smapap) announced a disruption to the pumping service in the western part of the port.
The disruption to the drinking water supply occurs during the holiday season, when Progreso receives thousands of visitors, both domestic and international.
Many of them are staying in summer houses and hotels located in the affected areas, increasing the demand for service and making its restoration even more urgent.
Through its networks, it was reported that machinery not affiliated with Smapap broke the pipeline near Ciudad Maderas.
Smapap personnel must repair the damaged pipeline that affected the water supply in the western part of Progreso. As has been reported, the western part of the port of Progreso is supplied by pipelines arriving from Sierra Papacal.
According to reports, due to the damage caused, pumping had to be temporarily halted while repairs were carried out, leaving Chuburná, Chelem, and Yucalpetén without service.
Given this, the agency asked the public to be patient while work is carried out to restore service as soon as possible.
