Rescued dogs find refuge in Mérida bookstore

Librerías Dante welcomes rescued dogs as part of the Capture, Sterilization, and Release (CEL) program in Mérida. These canines have already been vaccinated, sterilized, and equipped with identification tags.

Three rescued dogs are now part of Librerías Dante’s cultural space in the Olimpo district of Mérida’s Historic Center. They are Güero, Muu, and Kalimán, who have already won the hearts of customers and readers.

These dogs are part of the CEL program implemented by the Mérida Environment and Animal Welfare Unit (UMABA).

Thanks to this program, the animals are sterilized, vaccinated against rabies, and dewormed before being reintegrated into the urban environment in a controlled manner.

Librerías Dante joined this strategy by offering a safe place for the dogs to rest, seek refuge from the sun, and interact with people without posing a health or safety risk.

To distinguish the animals participating in the program, authorities place a small ear tag in their ears. This sign lets you know they’ve gone through the entire CEL process and are in optimal health.

“We ask that you please respect them while they take shelter from the sun and heat,” the bookstore posted on its social media, highlighting that the furry friends “also like to read.”

This initiative promotes animal welfare and a culture of respect and coexistence between humans and animals. It also transforms the bookstore into a friendly and conscious space where literature and empathy coexist.
