Strengthening the network of safe spaces for women in Mérida and its police stations.
In a collaborative effort to promote women’s rights and their access to a life free from violence, the Mérida City Council trained 112 workers at La Plancha Park to prevent, address, and eradicate sexual harassment in the workplace.
Yahayra Centeno Ceballos, director of the Women’s Institute, stated that in this new way of governing, Mayor Cecilia Patrón Laviada prioritizes ensuring that women are safe in all spaces and enjoy a better quality of life.
“Joined efforts are key to ensuring that more women in Mérida and the surrounding police stations have full lives and feel safe. This training is important to continue advancing efforts to eradicate gender-based violence and ensure that all women are safe at work, on the street, or in their homes,” said Centeno Ceballos.
She reported that the workshop “Zero Tolerance for Sexual Harassment in the Workplace” focuses on raising awareness among participants about inappropriate behavior that can occur in the workplace and the importance of eradicating it to ensure a healthy, respectful work environment with equal opportunities for women and men.
Participants were also informed about the Institute’s free and comprehensive services for women experiencing violence.
“Remember that you can always report any situation of violence that may occur at La Plancha Park to the Women’s Institute. We are an institution that offers completely free psychological, legal, and social work support, and we also have a 24/7 emergency “Women’s Line,” which you can also download on your mobile phone,” he added.
For his part, José Arnulfo Escamilla Novelo, administrator of La Plancha Park, thanked the Mérida City Council and the Women’s Institute for this combined effort on behalf of the park’s workers.
“It is very satisfying that our staff has been trained in the zero-tolerance workshop on sexual harassment and sexual harassment in the workplace. It is very important that everyone feels safe in their workplaces and joins forces to eliminate violence,” he added.
With these actions, the Mérida City Council is working to prevent gender-based violence, promote equality, and create spaces where everyone can develop professionally freely, and safely.
