A tragedy amid Holy Week plunged the Felipe Carrillo Puerto-Tulum Highway into mourning, where three people lost their lives Tuesday morning in a spectacular vehicle accident.
The accident occurred around six in the morning near the community of Tres Reyes. Motorists traveling in the area alerted the 911 emergency number about a violent collision between a Nissan NP300 pickup truck and a cargo truck.
According to initial reports, the pickup truck collided with the rear of the truck, possibly due to poor visibility or excessive speed.
The impact was devastating. The vehicle was practically destroyed, and sadly, its occupants died at the scene. Preliminary reports indicate that the victims included two women and a man, who was apparently the driver.
Mexican Red Cross paramedics arrived at the scene and confirmed that the bodies no longer showed any signs of life. The scene was shocking and caused consternation among those passing by.
National Guard and municipal police cordoned off the area, while personnel from the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) carried out the necessary procedures. The bodies were removed with care, and traffic was partially blocked during the work.
Authorities are currently continuing their investigation to determine the exact causes of the accident, although excessive speed or poor visibility may have been contributing factors.
