CCE and CFE work together to improve electrical infrastructure

Both organizations would invest in modernizing transmission lines in the state, especially in the most affected areas.

In light of the recurring blackouts affecting various areas of Yucatán, the Business Coordinating Council (CCE) is in talks with the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) to implement urgent solutions to guarantee a stable energy supply in the state.

Emilio Blanco del Villar, president of the CCE Yucatán, emphasized that the power outages are largely due to outdated infrastructure and a lack of investment in recent years.

Immediate actions include an investment plan to modernize transmission lines, especially in the most affected areas. Additionally, they seek to ensure the supply of natural gas, essential for the operation of combined-cycle plants, key to electricity generation on the peninsula.

Due to the constant outages, many companies have opted to generate their energy with gas or diesel plants to avoid financial losses.

“A company shutdown costs money, and that cost ends up impacting consumers,” explained Blanco del Villar.

The business leader acknowledged a positive change at the CFE under new leadership: “Today there is a different vision. They are open to dialogue and there is a commitment to improvement.”

The announced investments are expected to reduce blackouts and strengthen the electricity grid in Yucatán.
