At a press conference by Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena, the resignation of “Federica” Janine Patricia Quijano Tapia as head of the Yucatán government’s Secretariat of Sustainable Development was announced.
The state governor announced the departure of the now-former official from the cabinet and the appointment of Neyra Silva as the new Secretary of Development this Wednesday, minutes after 9:00 a.m.
“It’s a position I always dream of […] there are many areas in which I have developed, and you should know that […] from today on, you will have my experience to help you carry out my duties and run the Department in the best possible way,” said the new head.
The reasons for the resignation have not yet been disclosed, although Federica Quijano recently caused controversy by touring with Kabah, the pop group she belonged to in the 1990s and 2000s.
Governor Díaz Mena announced today that he has accepted the resignation of artist Janine Patricia Quijano Tapia as Secretary of Sustainable Development.
Although the Chief Executive did not provide details about the Kabah singer’s departure, all indications are that it was due to her constant musical commitments and the neglect of the department under her charge.
At the same morning press conference on Wednesday, April 9, at the Government Palace, Neyra Concepción Silva Rosado, who served as head of the department of the Office of the Director of Natural Resources Management and Conservation at the same Ministry, was introduced.
An unexpected promotion for this professional who has dedicated many years to nature and flamingo conservation in the state and has experience in fieldwork for Pronatura of the Peninsula.
According to the Directory of Officials of the Government of Yucatán, before her promotion, Neyra Silva Rosado served as head of the department in the Office of the Director of Natural Resources Management and Conservation, which is part of the Directorate of Natural Resources Management and Conservation of the SDS.
The “Federica” controversy
Known by her stage name, Federica Quijano, the now-former Secretary of Sustainable Development was caught touring with the musical group, despite her position in the Yucatán government. Although she initially denied that she was touring with Kabah on the “90s Pop Tour,” photos and videos of the Yucatán official at concerts and private events have been circulating in recent days. She admitted that she already has some private performances with the group scheduled.

“I only have a few private events I’ve had to attend, but I haven’t been to a concert since the beginning of the year.”
When questioned about these events, the singer asserted that her priority was Yucatán. “Of course, I will always prefer my state. Kabah gave me a family and a future, a peaceful life with my children, and now I’m back with a job. I didn’t come to slack off, I came to work.”
Events with Kabah, such as the Bésame Mucho Austin 2025 festival on April 5 in the United States, made her the target of criticism for ignoring her duties as a state government official.
