The economy of southeastern Mexico will experience a significant rebound thanks to the synergy that Cemex and the Government of Yucatán began forging this week, an agreement that includes promoting infrastructure and industrial development in the region.
In a meeting led by Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena and Carlos Garza, Vice President of Corporate Affairs and Enterprise Risk Management of Cemex México, various investment opportunities focused on sustainable development and the modernization of the region were explored.
During the meeting, strategic topics to strengthen the regional economy were discussed.
The state leader highlighted the importance of private sector participation in the so-called “Mayan Renaissance” initiatives, a project that seeks to trigger economic and social development through high-impact infrastructure.
For his part, the Cemex executive confirmed the company’s interest in participating in key projects such as the creation of industrial corridors, the modernization of the Port of Progreso, and actions that promote the circular economy.
The collaboration between the two entities also includes the modernization of highways, bridges, and roads to optimize regional connectivity, as well as initiatives in the affordable housing development sector.
For more than half a century, Cemex has had a presence in the region due to the cement manufacturing at its Mérida Plant, which has been a significant economic driver in the area within the construction industry.
Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to establishing synergies that drive economic growth and the implementation of innovative projects that strengthen Yucatán’s competitiveness nationally and internationally.
The impact of these investments could extend to more neighboring states, consolidating a new hub of industrial development in an area traditionally dependent on tourism and primary activities.
