Fire destroys a house in Tizimin, Yucatan

A fire broke out in a house built of wood and cardboard in the Santo Domingo neighborhood of Tizimin, Yucatan.

A fire consumed a home located on the corner of 38th and 69th Streets in the Santo Domingo neighborhood of Tizimin. The flames, which reached several meters in height, were visible from more than four blocks away, alerting neighbors to the magnitude of the fire that destroyed a family’s entire property.

At the time of the blaze, no one was inside the house, which was built with wooden walls and a cardboard roof. The screams of neighbors upon noticing the fire alerted other residents, but little could be done due to the rapid spread of the flames.

After receiving the emergency report at 911, the first to arrive on the scene were Municipal Police officers, led by Deputy Director Marcial Perera Navarro. Despite their efforts to extinguish the fire using buckets of water, they were unable to stop the flames from spreading.

Strong winds were a key factor in the rapid spread of the fire, which destroyed all the belongings inside the home: beds, hammocks, a television, bicycles, clothing, and other items, which were reduced to ash. The fire also consumed the roof of what was supposed to be a bathroom at the back of the house.

Minutes later, Fire Department Units 875 and 834 arrived and managed to completely extinguish the flames. They later demolished the remaining wooden structures preventing the fire from spreading further.

There were rumors in the surrounding area that the fire could have been started by the homeowner himself, who, according to some accounts, was frequently under the influence of illegal substances and had constant arguments with his family. However, this version must be clarified by the family itself, as it is up to them to decide how to proceed if this hypothesis is confirmed.

This incident leaves a family homeless and without any material possessions, while authorities continue the corresponding investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire.
