Municipal Police officers arrested a man from El Salvador on Saturday who was found wandering near a vehicle checkpoint located at the entrance to the city on the way to the X’bojón police station.
According to the report, officers detected the man walking aimlessly through the area. When interviewed, he identified himself as Carmelo López Hernández, 41, and said he was originally from El Salvador.
He stated that his final destination was California, United States, where he planned to work as a day laborer harvesting lettuce; however, he indicated that he was unable to achieve his objective and ended up stranded in Yucatecan territory.
After being detained, López Hernández was taken to the offices of the National Migration Institute in Mérida, where he was placed at the disposal of authorities for the corresponding legal procedures.
