Blackouts affect several areas of Mérida amid heat wave

Several areas of Mérida have reported power outages this Saturday in recent hours, amid the heat wave affecting the city, reaching temperatures close to 40°C (104°F).

According to reports received through social media, residents of areas such as Vicente Solís, Dzityá, Reparto Granjas Mulchechén, Los Almendros (Ciudad Caucel), Jardines de Miraflores, and Yucalpetén expressed their annoyance and concern over the blackouts affecting their homes. Despite the reports, the problem has not yet been resolved.

Residents of the Vicente Solís neighborhood commented that these types of outages are common during this time of year. In their neighborhood, they had lost power twice this morning.

In Dzityá, residents spent the entire night Thursday without power, while in Reparto Granjas Mulchechén, the outage lasted at least six hours, according to residents of the latter area.

Other affected areas included Jardines de Miraflores, where users reported intermittent outages, and the Yucalpetén neighborhood, where the power was cut off at 12:30 p.m.

The Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) has not issued an official statement regarding the cause of these outages nor has it provided an estimate for service normalization.

Meanwhile, residents continue to wait for a solution amid temperatures exceeding 35 degrees Celsius at 5:00 p.m.
