A 16-year-old boy was arrested for carrying a replica gun, which he allegedly used to threaten another young woman at a high school in the capital city.
An initial complaint was filed through social media by internet users, including graduates of the high school where the incident occurred, regarding the presence of an armed individual.
Moments later, the Secretariat of Public Security (SSP) confirmed that the situation was under control, and the minor had been detained.
On Wednesday, April 2, during a patrol at High School No. 8, located in the Francisco de Montejo neighborhood, SSP officers were approached by one of the students, identified as a 15-year-old girl.
The minor told officers that a young man with whom she had been in contact on social media intercepted her as she was leaving class and showed her what appeared to be a firearm.
After searching the area, officers located a 16-year-old boy, who was fully identified by the complainant and confirmed to be carrying a replica of a pistol.
According to the SSP statement, the minor will be handed over to the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) for further investigation.
Unofficially, it was claimed that the now-detained man threatened two students, who notified the school’s principals, who in turn notified the authorities through the 911 emergency number, but this has not been confirmed by the SSP.
The official statement only “acknowledges the young woman’s responsibility in requesting support, as well as the prompt response of the police officers and the institutional support of the school staff and family.”
