Massive forest fire spans three municipalities in Yucatán, affecting 600 hectares

A fire affecting approximately 600 hectares was reported today in the municipalities of Conkal, Mocochá, and Yaxkukul, marking the largest fire so far this season.

The fire started at noon and has not yet been completely extinguished.

Members of the Ministry of Public Security (SSP) and brigades from each affected municipality participated in the operation.

The Mexican Army also assisted, and aerial support is being provided by a Bell-429 helicopter, which is deploying water.

So far, it has been possible to keep the fire away from nearby homes, but the State Police urges the public to remain vigilant.

As a tally, the State Government reported that municipal Civil Protection units responded to 87 fire outbreaks in March. Three forest fires in Celestún, Umán, and Dzidzantún.

Hernán Hernández Rodríguez, head of the State Civil Protection Coordination (Procivy), mentioned that Yucatán is currently experiencing its most critical fire season, and he is urging everyone to remain alert.
