“Drop by drop” scam in Kanasín: Colombians arrested for violent collection

Two Colombian men were arrested when they were allegedly trying to violently collect money from a Kanasín neighbor, as they are part of the network dedicated to money loans known as “Gota a gota” (drop by drop).

The events occurred on Thursday, January 30, on a property on 15th Street between 6 and 8 in the Tulipanes subdivision, where, thanks to a citizen report, authorities knew that two subjects were causing disturbances on the streets and were making threats against a woman.

Municipal police arrived at the scene and detained two subjects, identified as Juan José G.H., 24 years old, and Kilian Alfonso G.B., 30, both Colombian.

The detainees were transferred to the municipal jail to carry out the corresponding procedures.

As is known, drop by drop is a system of illegal short-term loans with high interest rates, a model “imported” from Colombia that is also characterized by its violence in collections.

In 2023, Kanasín police arrested a couple, a Mexican woman and a Colombian man, after disturbing public order and threatening a woman in the Pablo Moreno neighborhood.

A year earlier, a man and a woman, both Mexican, were arrested after a report of death threats against some people in the Cielo Alto subdivision for not paying their debts on time.

It was said at that time that they also used the same clandestine financial system.
