Authorities create new spaces in the Merida Municipal Adoption Center

More dogs and cats are sought to be adopted in Mérida.

One of the pending items on the agenda of the Environment and Animal Welfare Unit of the Mérida City Council is the expansion of the municipal adoption center, which has increased its activity to the point of receiving an average of one pet per day, according to information from biologist Raúl Fernando Escalante Aguilar, director of this Unit.

The official commented that they are looking to expand the facilities and volunteer activities, between the city council, schools, and companies. This project will be done with shared resources between the city council and companies or schools that are available to collaborate.

The projected budget for the realization of this project is at least 700 thousand pesos, to increase the recreational areas for animals to more than 60 meters, such as spaces for stress reduction as well as socialization to prepare them for adoption, as well as the cleaning and hygiene area, including new bathtubs.

A new electrical and hydraulic system is also necessary so that the animals that arrive can be cared for with volunteer programs and prepared for adoption, with adequate hygiene and socialization that will facilitate their integration into a family.

With this project, the goal is to increase the number of adoptions, since it is easier for citizens to adopt a pet that already has well-defined traits such as socialization.
