The lynched man from Tekit previously committed another murder in Kanasín

A double tragedy shocked the municipality of Tekit, Yucatán on the afternoon of Monday, January 27, when two people lost their lives violently.

A woman lost her life after an attack at the door of her home in front of her family, after which her attacker was lynched and burned by the residents.

The residents of Tekit took justice into their own hands since this would not be the first crime committed by the subject, identified as “El Wero”. He is accused of assaults and other similar incidents.

The fatal attack of María “N”, 69, could have been prevented since her attacker Ismael Alejandro A.C. AKA “El Wero” already had a history of violence and consumption of drugs as a warning sign of a possible crime of this nature.

“El Wero”, who suffered a mental illness due to his drug addiction, had already been murdered in 2021 when he was at a rehabilitation center in Kanasín.

Ismael A. C. was arrested after he attacked a young man from Chiapas with a pickaxe who was hospitalized in the same rehab center as him in Kanasín, Yucatán.

On that occasion, Ismael attacked his victim while he was sleeping. After which he was sent to the psychiatric hospital for evaluation.

He was initially detained for the crime of attempted homicide since the victim, Víctor G. D., was alive, but in serious condition. Days after the attack, Victor died.

After the attack in the annex, “El Wero” was sent to the psychiatric hospital for evaluation. This was determined by Mariza Virginia Polanco Sabido, First Control Judge of the Second Judicial District based in Kanasín.

In the first part of the process, when the victim was still alive, the accused was placed at the disposal of the judge and the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) requested that he be charged with the crime of attempted homicide.

However, the hearing was suspended and the judge sent the accused for psychiatric evaluation before determining his legal situation.

After the death of Víctor G.D. and with the results of the psychiatric evaluation, the criminal process was terminated since Ismael Alejandro was diagnosed with a disorder and, therefore, is not considered responsible due to lack of mental capacity. It was determined that he was not responsible for the crime of homicide.

Although Ismael Alejandro was considered unchargeable for the crime of homicide, the judge determined that he should be undergoing psychiatric treatment. The court agreements would have stipulated that he be admitted to a psychiatric hospital and assigned a guardian.

However, by law, in Mexico mental hospitals are not obliged to keep patients hospitalized, who can leave the institution and suspend their treatment if they wish.

To date, the circumstances under which Ismael Alejandro left the psychiatric hospital or who his assigned guardian was are unknown; There was also no information on how long he was hospitalized or if he continued with his treatment after leaving.

The last homicide of “El Wero”

Initial reports of the homicide last Monday indicated that he had attacked her with a machete. Still, it was later clarified that it was a blow with a blunt object, a bat.

This Tuesday afternoon the FGE confirmed that the cause of death was a head injury. The woman was buried in the Tekit cemetery on the afternoon of Tuesday, January 28. Both the funeral procession and the house of “El Wero” were guarded by police.

Initial versions indicated that the murderer escaped into the jungle where he was located by state police, who could not prevent the lynching as they were outnumbered.

Statements from Leticia Canché Suárez, the mother of the lynched young man, indicate that her son was hiding in her house. Still, her neighbors arrived and threatened the family if she did not hand him over.

Leticia Canché Suárez, mother of the young man lynched in Tekit, interviewed after the tragic events.

According to her, the residents searched for him for several hours, until she agreed to hand him over. Police officers arrived at the attacker’s home and approached him in a patrol car.

However, the neighbors prevented him from taking him to the municipal headquarters, they subdued him and several people attacked him. After the attack, they poured fuel on him and set him on fire, thus ending the life of the alleged attacker.

“I hope all those people don’t suffer what I am suffering for my son, they burned him. I couldn’t see it because they were telling me that even they were going to burn me, kill me, I stayed locked in my house crying,” said Leticia Canché, who also stated that the family of the woman her son murdered sold him drugs.
