At the end of 2024, robberies had a net increase in the number of events recorded by security agencies.
In its latest report on the incidence of crime, the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System indicated that in Yucatan, the authorities registered just over 500 investigation files for this crime.

Last year’s number is the highest recorded in the last four years, since in 2022, 461 thefts were recorded and in 2021, 352. It was since then that a year-on-year increase in this crime began.

Regarding the classification of robberies, it is noted that home robbery decreased compared to the previous year, going from 108 in 2023 to 74 in 2024. It should be noted that the authorities reported that only one of the 74 cases was committed with violence.
However, another type of robbery that saw a considerable increase in cases was that of motor vehicles, which went from 107 in 2023 to 118 cases in 2024, a difference of 11 cases between one year and the next.
In this area, the most frequent was the theft of motorcycles, which totaled 77 cases, while that of cars was 41.
Of the latter, the figure was the same as in 2023. In the case of motorcycles, there was an increase, since in the same period of 2023 there were 65 cases.
In the case of robbery of pedestrians on public roads, there was certainly a decrease, going from 51 cases in 2023 to 43 in 2024 (19 were committed with violence).
On the other hand, more than 100 businesses were victims of robberies by criminals in Yucatan, federal records indicate.
The year that just began has also seen the first cases of robbery with violence, such as the one that occurred at the beginning of 2025, when two subjects entered a hotel in the Salvador Alvarado Oriente neighborhood and assaulted an employee with a machete, taking money and belongings from the victim, whom they injured. Another case occurred in Umán when another subject robbed a mini-supermarket.
In both cases, the perpetrators were arrested.
