Four teenagers detained for smoking pot in Hunucma’s central square

The unmistakable aroma of “green grass” alerted Municipal Police officers, who surprised four minors calmly smoking a “joint” on a bench in the central park around noon.

The quartet, who had left school, was in the main square when they were approached by the agents after perceiving the characteristic smell.

Upon searching, the police officers confirmed that the young men had a cigarette of this prohibited substance in their possession.

The group was taken to the police station, where the authorities proceeded to notify their parents about what had happened. While waiting for their arrival, the young men received a talk about the consequences of drug use, focused on the prevention of addictions and the importance of making responsible decisions.

According to reports, one of the minors is a resident of the municipality of Kinchil, while the other three are originally from Hunucmá.

The incident has raised concerns among residents, who point out the need to strengthen supervision in public spaces and implement programs to raise awareness among young people about the risks associated with drug use.

Authorities stressed that surveillance rounds will continue in the area to prevent this type of incident. They also called on parents to talk to their children and be attentive to their activities and friendships.
