An accident with fire inside a restaurant in Mérida downtown

On the afternoon of Friday, January 3, an accident occurred inside a restaurant located in the tourist corridor of the city of Mérida, in which, apparently, an injured person was reported.

According to the information collected, an accident occurred in the kitchen of the “Hacienda Teya” restaurant on 60th Street between 53 and 55, in the historic center of the city, very close to the park and the temple of Santa Lucía.

Apparently, the incident occurred due to the accumulation of gases in the kitchen area that, upon contact with the fire, caused a “flash” and that reached a member of the restaurant staff, causing non-life-threatening injuries.

The strong flame even caused a door to the premises to open. An ambulance from the Ministry of Public Security (SSP) and personnel from the Fire Department of the same corporation arrived at the scene to control the situation. After securing the area, the restaurant continued with its daily operations.
