Noé Rodríguez Cervera, former president of the Association of Hotels and Hostels of Valladolid, stated that during Christmas Eve and Christmas holidays, there was an increase of up to 60% in tourist overnight stays in the city. Hoteliers expect that for this weekend, it could increase a little more.
During 2024 there was no growth in accommodation since, according to Rodríguez Cervera, hotel occupancy remained at 50%, similar to last year.
However, by 2025 a growth of at least 4% is expected, due to the constant promotional campaigns carried out in the various events, both national and international, in which the city’s tourism service providers have participated.
The former hotel leader recalled that until the first half of December, there was around 30% of the accommodation. However, during the last Christmas Eve and Christmas holidays, that percentage increased to 60%, mostly national tourists who came to spend their parties in this city.
They expect that starting Friday, December 27 and until January 2, the demand for rooms will increase by even 75%, especially in small and medium-sized lodging centers.
Tourists who arrived for the Christmas Eve and Christmas holidays left their rooms on December 26 to continue their vacation in other parts of the region. However, on Friday the 27th, other visitors will begin to arrive to spend their New Year’s Eve in the city.
The main sites that tourists visit are the cenotes in the eastern area, and the archaeological zones of Chichén Itzá, Ek Balam, and even Cobá in the neighboring state of Quintana Roo.
In the same way, they are attracted by local gastronomy, since this city is already recognized as the gastronomic capital, not only in the east of the State but in all of Yucatan.
At night, tourists go out to walk through the streets of the historic center, the Calzada de los Frailes. Then they enjoy the video mapping projected in the former convent of San Bernardino de Siena and the parish of San Servacio in the downtown.
Then they go to the restaurants in the first part of the city to enjoy the gastronomy. During the day they go to the cenote, they even get into the water, despite the low temperature, but for those who come from the center of the country, this environment is as if they were in summer in their places of origin.
