The Environment and Animal Welfare Unit of the municipality reported that to date 426 free sterilizations have been carried out in police stations and announced that next week a day will be held at the X’matkuil community.
Raúl Escalante Aguilar, director of the agency, said that the 426 sterilizations carried out are part of the 600 surgeries that were planned to be carried out in these communities, so on November 22 in X’matkuil the goal is expected to be reached. since 180 cats and dogs will be operated on in that location.
Regarding the actions that will be carried out, Escalante Aguilar trusted that these will continue.
He added that these free sterilizations have been carried out in communities belonging to the Cuxtal Reserve, with the aim that the canine and feline population that is homeless does not continue to increase since feral attacks against wild animals in the reserve have been recorded. He added that in the dry season is when the attack by stray dogs and cats is most visible because the vegetation is dry and the camera traps can record these situations, which to date are just over 15, although in recent months grass growth has not been able to observe more attacks.
