The Jícama Festival is held in Maxcanú, Yucatan

On Thursday, November 14, the fifth edition of the Jicama Festival was announced, an event that seeks to position itself as one of the most representative tourist attractions in the state. This Festival, which will take place next Saturday, November 16, and Sunday, November 17 in the municipality of Maxcanú, will bring together hundreds of visitors with the mission of promoting the identity and economy of the region, through the valorization of a local and emblematic product, the jícama.

Organized by La Tierra de la Jícama, the Universidad del Poniente, and the Secretariat of Tourism Development of Yucatán, this event seeks to attract more tourists to the interior of the State, thus diversifying the tourist offer and promoting the development of the municipalities.

The organizers emphasized that the festival represents an opportunity to strengthen regional tourism, encourage the consumption of local products, and promote community participation in recreational and cultural activities.

In the meeting with local media, Raúl Paz Noriega, Subsecretary of Sustainable Tourism Development representing Darío Flota Ocampo, Secretary of Tourism Development of Yucatán, together with Chef José Rodríguez Cih, organizer and promoter of the Festival; Rafael Chan Magaña, rector of the Universidad del Poniente; and Camilo May Cauich, mayor of Maxcanú highlighted the economic impact of this type of events for the region, since they are crucial for the promotion and strengthening of local tourism, highlighting the identity and heritage of each region.

“The Jícama Festival is a window of opportunity to bring visitors closer to our roots and traditions. It is not only an attraction for tourists who seek to learn more about jícama production, but also an opportunity for local producers to offer their products directly to the public,” said Paz Noriega.

He added that the Secretariat of Tourism Promotion will actively contribute to the dissemination of the event, bringing the media and agencies to amplify the reach and take advantage of this gastronomic exhibition of Yucatan.

During the conference, attendees were offered a tour of a sample of 14 stands with products derived from or inspired by jícama, which are representative of the 82 exhibitors that will participate this weekend in the festival.

From traditional dishes to gastronomic innovations, visitors will be able to enjoy a wide range of activities, tastings, and exhibitions at Maxcanú, in what promises to be a unique celebration of flavor and culture.
