Three died and several were injured in an accident on the Mérida-Tizimín highway

TEMAX, YUCATAN.- A head-on collision between two vehicles left three dead and five injured in the accident that occurred tonight on the Temax-Buctzotz highway.

On the night of Sunday, Nov two people were trapped inside their vehicles —a Tsuru and a Fiat—, but unfortunately one of them died instantly after they collided on the Mérida – Tizimín federal highway, at the Temax-Buctzotz junction. Two of the injured in this crash later died in hospitals.

Data collected by Diario de Yucatán show that the two vehicles were traveling in opposite directions.

One of the drivers, presumably the driver of the Fiat, lost control of the steering wheel and invaded the opposite lane, crashing head-on into the other car by invading its lane, leaving both drivers trapped in their cars.

The accident occurred around 18:40 hours, near the Temax junction, on a sharp curve.

One of the injured, who suffered serious injuries and was trapped in the vehicle, was freed by paramedics and taken, along with other injured passengers, to hospitals in Motul and Izamal. This injured person would be one of the two victims who died while receiving medical attention.

The road remains closed to traffic, and as an alternative route, it is recommended to take the Dzoncauich road towards San Antonio Cámara.

Drivers who were circulating in the area dialed the emergency numbers 911.

Upon arrival, agents of the Municipal Police of Temax and the Secretariat of Public Security (SSP) flagged off the area, closed the road traffic, and notified the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) and the State Investigation Police (PEI).

Ironically, according to some of the elements that participated in the rescue and medical attention of the injured, the Tsuru was carrying men and women who attended an Alcoholics Anonymous convention in Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, while the Fiat was carrying drunk people.
