The Secretariat of Agrarian, Territorial and Urban Development (Sedatu) decreed the expropriation for reasons of public utility of 30,727.79 square meters (m²) of land, which will be used for the execution of section 3 of the Maya Train Project.
The Federal government will expropriate “a total of 40 privately owned properties”, located in the municipalities of Kanasín, Maxcanú, Tixpéhual, Cacalchén, and Mérida in the state of Yucatán.
“The expropriation includes the constructions and installations that are located on the real estate and that are part of it,” is clarified in the decree issued today in an evening edition in the Official Gazette of the Federation, in which it is detailed that Sedatu proceeds to the immediate occupation of the properties.
The owners of the land will have ten business days to go to the corresponding judicial procedure.
Since last September, Sedatu issued a declaration of public utility for the properties, the document states, which specifies that the agency must coordinate with Fonatur Tren Maya, S.A. de C.V. to cover the amounts of compensation established by law.
