Gas shortage in Mérida; Pemex plant maintenance causes the problem

Due to problems in the LP Gas division of Pemex, a critical situation of shortage of this fuel has arisen in the South Southeast area. Users have already begun to report that they are not supplied when they ask for it, and there are long lines of vehicles carrying their tanks to be loaded, waiting at the gas stations.

Workers from these gas companies who asked not to be identified for fear of being fired reported that, since last week, they began to register this problem when they went to load their tanks to serve their clients because they were rationing the service, the order was even given that in the case of stationary tanks, only 60% of their order is supplied.

In businesses such as hotels, restaurants, and also in homes, users complain that the tanks do not last as long as they usually do.

They explained that the problem arose because, like every year, the plant where they supply, for example, Yucatán, which is Cactus, Chiapas, closed in September for maintenance and the work normally takes a month, but it already took them longer than normal.

They acknowledged that they were notified in time, since last August 19, of this closure for maintenance, but complications arose, for example, in these cases, in order not to leave them without fuel, they sent them to the “Pajaritos” plant in Veracruz, although it involves more hours travel for transfer.

However, in Pajaritos three weeks ago they were told that they had run out of LP Gas, so were sent to Tuxpan, also in Veracruz, although with an additional 10 hours of travel, and despite that when arrived they were told that with the passage of the last hurricanes affected its facilities; Furthermore, the ships cannot dock to supply them, and that is why they were no longer served.

The workers reported that that is why since last week they began to ration the supply of this fuel, the complete orders are not filled, only up to 60% at most. On November 1, a gas shortage was declared that affected not only Yucatán but all entities in the southeast zone of the country.

On a tour of the gas stations, it was possible to see the long lines of customers looking to sell this fuel, but already in the Zeta Peninsula, Tomza, and other companies they report that they do not have gas.
