A laundry explodes in the east of Mérida

On the morning of Thursday, October 31, a strong explosion occurred in a small shopping center in the east of the city, which caused significant damage to various businesses, with no people injured.

The explosion occurred inside a laundry business on 24th Street, near Quetzalcóatl Avenue, in the Chichén Itzá neighborhood.

The cause of the detonation was a gas leak in a tank at the same business.

The shock wave affected nearby businesses knocked down two billboards, and broke windows of a restaurant that is about 60 meters from the site of the explosion.

The shock wave from the explosion in the laundry damaged businesses and vehicles several meters around, including this restaurant that is located across the street from the damaged business.

Agents of the Fire Department of the Ministry of Public Security (SSP) arrived at the scene and searched for more leaks and other risks that could cause a new explosion. They also began removing the material launched at the time of the detonation, as well as the removal of debris.

The explosion damaged at least four commercial businesses. It also affected some vehicles that were passing by at the time.
