More than 60 thousand citizens and visitors invaded the streets of the city center during the traditional Paseo de las Ánimas in Mérida 2024, led by Municipal President Cecilia Patrón Laviada accompanied by her daughter María Sofía.
The Tunkul, the snail, and the incense announced the passage of some 700 “souls” who, dressed in regional costume, illuminated the path from the General Cemetery to the San Juan Square.
The route began after 8 p.m. and reached the San Juan arch, passing through the Magical Neighborhood of La Ermita, in a route of about 13 blocks where colorful altars were installed, prayers, songs, and floral offerings were everywhere, filling the air with emotion and spirituality.
Thousands of families welcomed the faithful departed in the framework of the Janal Pixán festivities that unite everyone in cultural identity.
“Meridians from the south, north, center, and rural communities converged as one city, one community living together and sharing our traditions and culture”, said the mayor.
