The cemeteries of Mérida are now prepared to receive visitors for the Days of the Dead, according to Felipe Pacheco, deputy director of general services of the Mérida City Council, who added that the influx begins on October 26.
We prepare a month and a half in advance so that we do not waste time. We attend to the five cemeteries of Mérida and the 35 that exist in communities belonging to Mérida; for those, we coordinate with their heads.”
He pointed out that the maintenance they give to the cemeteries consists of cleaning, pruning, sweeping, clearing the drainage, and ensuring the lighting works.
At this time, the most popular cemetery is that of Xoclán followed by the General Cemetery, where last year they received approximately 4 thousand people between both places on November 1 and 2. Finally, he added that they expect to see the people’s attendance starting October 26, both visitors and sellers of flowers, candles, and all the items necessary to receive the deceased.
