On the afternoon of Thursday, October 17, the sinking of the vessel “San Crisanto X” was reported, with five crew members on board, of which two remain missing.
According to preliminary information, the boat capsized because of a strong sea early in the morning, north of Celestún.
The three rescued fishermen, who were helped by the “Propemex 14” boat, were floating and being dragged by the current.
Upon being rescued, they reported that the incident occurred while sailing from Caleta de Progreso.
After receiving the emergency signal through radios, support was requested from the authorities of the Yucatan Public Security Secretariat and the Navy Secretariat to begin the search for the two crew members who had not yet appeared.
Search operations are currently being carried out in the area to locate the missing fishermen.
The authorities are working to provide support to those rescued and their families at this difficult time. The Progreso community remains attentive to the progress of the rescue operation. October has been a tragic month for fishermen in Yucatán, since due to Hurricane Milton, several fishing boats capsized. In some cases, their crew members died.
