This year there will be no traditional Day of the Dead altars in the Plaza Grande, and many representatives of the different municipalities of Yucatán and government agencies that participate each year, are complaining.
The reason for the suspension this year is that the exhibition of altars involves logistics, which due to the pressure of time is not possible, according to the Secretary of Culture and the Arts, Patricia Martín Briceño.
However, he announced that a series of activities would be carried out in counterpart at the Great Museum of the Mayan World.
The official pointed out that it will be a very educational exhibition, in which you will realize how altars are formed with the Mayan tradition.
The exhibition will be accompanied by conferences and parallel activities, such as a table with researchers, said Patricia Martín. He also acknowledged that the dates for these activities have not yet been defined, but they will be announced shortly by the Secretary of Culture of the State government.
The official explained that the display of altars in the Plaza Grande will not be done, as was customary, because she took office just two weeks ago and there is a degree of technical difficulty in bringing people from the interior of the State.
However, for this reason, the activities will be carried out in the Great Museum of the Mayan World, so that people who want to learn or know more about this tradition can do so.
He indicated that they will invite people from different parts of the State to set up the altars since aesthetically speaking the ways in which they are presented are different in the south of the state than in the north.
