77% hotel occupancy reported during long weekend in Cancun hotels

During the long weekend, on the occasion of the Commemoration of the Mexican Revolution, hotel occupancy in Quintana Roo exceeded 77%, which represented a recovery, despite rainy weather.

Bernardo Cueto Riestra, Secretary of Tourism, reported that an average of 400 thousand visitors were maintained in the destinations. In this way, an increase in the arrival of tourists is already marked by the arrival of the national market and from Canada which has already begun to travel to the Mexican Caribbean.

“We managed to exceed 500 air operations, this weekend and with a good number of travelers that led to having a good occupancy, and the increase is beginning to be perceived, facing the end of the year”, he explained.

He explained that this situation is beginning to generate a greater economic impact, derived from the various promotional efforts that are being carried out, and the rise will continue and there are still more flights that will be inaugurated at the end of the year.

The hotel sector has announced that reservation books show an upward trend, and by the end of the year, it is expected that some lodging centers will have overbooking and will exceed occupancy above 85%.

The Cancun International Airport explained that from Friday to Sunday, air operations were above 500 between national and international, after several weeks that remained at an average of 400, due to a decrease in airplane seats.

Although the occupation reported an increase, the nautical sector was affected due to bad weather, with limited operations, and on Sunday the Port Captaincy was closed, leaving only cruise ships and vessels larger than 40 feet open to navigation, explained Ricardo Muleiro López, head of Nautical Associates of Quintana Roo.

Now, from the Sedetur, actions are being promoted at the federal level to strengthen the promotion for the next few months, through the meeting of the Union of Secretaries of Tourism of Mexico.
