15th anniversary of the El Sótano collective to be celebrated in Merida

This year marks the 15th anniversary of the existence of the El Sótano collective, resident in Tapanco, who will be the participants in the Juan Balam performance.

At the end of this year, the Juan Balam project will premiere in its adaptation as a play in collaboration with the Xocen Peasant and Indigenous Theatre Laboratory.

“This reading is a stage where we will show the adaptation of the text to the Yucatecan context. In October, we will have the piece.”

This entire project is part of a larger one that corresponds to the Mexico on Stage scholarship from the Support System for the Creation of Cultural Projects from Sedeculta.

In these 13 years, the contribution of Tapanco to the cultural scene in Merida has been very important.

“The most relevant thing in these 13 years is the creation of a space where diverse communities find art, reflection, and find each other. We have met many people who are struggling to make art.”

Tapanco has also been a space where emerging artists have been able to boost their careers, which has allowed them to reach spaces in other places in the Mexican Republic.

This work is aimed at teenagers and adults. The cost of general admission is 150 pesos and 100 pesos for students, teachers, and seniors. This presentation is made possible thanks to the Cultural Directorate of the City of Mérida and the System of Support for Creation and Cultural Projects (SACPC).
