Mérida International Airport is experiencing its peak passenger traffic during the Easter holiday period, handling up to 11,500 passengers per day.
The Easter holidays bring a huge influx to Mérida’s historic center! The local architecture and cuisine attract thousands of tourists.
The number could increase during the Easter weekend and the holidays.
Elizabeth Di Dio, president of the Mérida State Chamber of Tourism, stated, “We hope to exceed the number of visitors who came last year during Holy Week compared to this year.”
The representative of the tourism association said that “those who visit the state will have the opportunity to experience our cuisine, which during Holy Week, with the seven stews, is very, very important.”
He emphasized the importance of religious tourism with a visit to the seven temples, a typical activity of the Andes, which takes place in Mérida, given that the central area of the Libertador municipality and other municipalities in the state have many nearby churches.
He also mentioned the live Stations of the Cross, such as the one held at the Santiago de La Punta Parish.
In addition to the various traditional tourist attractions, such as the Mukumbarí cable car, theme parks, the Chorros de Milla Zoo, restaurants, and tours of the city’s historic center, there are also various tourist routes to El Valle, La Azulita, and Jají, where you can find countless activities and places to enjoy during Holy Week and any time of year.
Regarding public services, Di Dio stated that they are in talks with tourism agencies to ensure the supply of fuel to the sector through the appropriate links. Likewise, the supply of electricity, despite being a problem that affects a large part of the country and does not depend exclusively on Mérida, is a problem.
